Meet our Pastor
Pastor Paul Gard
Paul grew up in northeastern WI on a dairy farm with seven siblings and attending the local Roman Catholic church. He was moved by the drawing of God to repent and place his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ a couple of years after high school. He began to attend a Baptist church in WI and there met his wonderful, supportive, and loving wife Deb. They have been married since 1994 and have three grown children.
Paul attended the University of WI-Green Bay for a bachelor’s degree in history and UMASS-Amherst for graduate studies in history. It was at UMASS where Paul was studying religious tolerance during the English Civil War where he encountered the Puritans. It was this interaction with the Puritans which changed Paul’s theology from a more man-centered faith to a God-centered faith based on His sovereignty over all things, including the salvation of the Bride of Christ, God’s elect. It was this point which moved Paul to the doctrines of grace which are taught so clearly in the Scriptures.
So rather than seek a PhD in British history, Paul decided to attend seminary. He graduated from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, MA. Paul has ministered at churches in Peterborough, NH; Duluth, MN; and now in Greenville.
Paul loves to teach the Bible, hermenutics, theology, church history, Christian ethics, and evangelism. His influences include the Patristic Fathers, the Puritans, Calvin, as well as modern scholars and theologians. He adheres to the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith due to its robust Biblical foundation.
Paul loves to read a wide variety of history, world religions, and current events as well as Sci-Fi, fantasy, and espionage novels. He and Deb are avid board gamers. Paul also loves sports, including his struggling Dolphins, Mets, and Bucks as well as enjoying the recent success of their NHL team, the Florida Panthers.
